Already?

It's five years today since my Mom lost her battle with cancer.
I was surprised how fast the years have gone.. five years?
Feels more like three..
But it is five.

That's us, circa 1973.
An educated guess ;)
Could well be 1974 as well... all I know for a fact is that I wore the same cardigan in my Kindergarten class photo..

Cheers Mom.. miss you.

Her new favorite hang-out

Her present was too big to take upstairs.
So there was a big reveal...



It's her new favorite place.
It'll move into her room, as soon as Saara's room is available again (two weeks, fingers crossed).



It's big enough for two.

The times you nail a present and manage to keep it unexpected..
..priceless :D

Cool wishes...

It's the January dump...
We're getting snow.
It just keeps coming.
No end in sight.
The reason it's all coming down at the coast is because December was so mild, the sea never froze. The winds keep picking up this lovely moisture from the sea, turning it into snow and dumping it all on us.

We're not quite where we were last winter, but getting close fast.

And as for cold.. I'd rather have this to cool me down:

(mint chocolate...mmmm...)

And I'd rather listen to this amazing creature whirring than be woken by snow ploughs.. just sayin'..

Aren't those colors unreal?

I'm off to pull another pair of woollen socks on...grumble..

Ja kyllä olen tietoinen, että samana päivänä on Leimailutaivas-tapahtuma. Mutta jos meitä löytyisi muutama, joka ei ole sinne menossa?
Laitan tämän nyt sillä varauksella, että perutaan, jos tulijoita ei oikein löydy, jooko?

-Missä?-
Paikka on Englantilainen koulu Helsingin Meilahdessa, Mäntytie 14 .Kulkuyhteydet ovat hyvät niin omalla autolla, kuin julkisillakin. Raitiovaunut 4 ja 10 tuovat lähelle (nelonen ihan viereen), Mannerheimintiellä (pysäkki: Kuusitie) ja Paciuksenkadulla (pysäkki: Meilahdentie) kulkee huippumäärä busseja ja jos on junalla tulossa, niin Pasilan asemalta kun hyppää 58 bussiin, niin se tuo sieltä ihan perille. Kadunvarsiparkkitilaa on koulun ympärillä. Klikkaa tästä , niin löydät kartan.

-Maksaako se jotain?-
Sisäänpääsymaksua ei ole :)

-Voinko tuoda lapset?-
Ainoa toive on, että sylivauvaa suuremmat lapsukaiset jäisivät kotiin hoitoon, jotta äiditkin saisivat stressivapaata laatuaikaa hyvässä seurassa.

-Kun nälkä iskee-
Termareissa löytyy kahvia ja teetä, pienet tarjottavat olemme tuoneet nyyttärihengessä :)

Lounaspuolen voi jokainen osallistuja hoitaa itselleen sopivimmalla tavalla. Kylmätilaa on, jos haluat tuoda omat evääsi (ja kola/energiajuomasi) ;) , tai 5min kävelymatkan päässä on K-market ja McDonalds. Ja kulkeehan tuo Pizzataksikin (uusi liike on jopa kävelymatkan päässä!).

-Mitä tarvitsen mukaani?-
Pakkaa mukaan materiaalia ja valokuvia tarpeeksi, mieluummin hiukan yläkanttiin, työkalusi ja villasukat tai tossut (kuka sitä koko päivän jaksaa hikoilla kengät jalassa!). Voit myös tuoda kirjoja tai lehtiä muiden selailtavaksi (muista merkitä nimesi niihin) inspiraatiota antamaan.
Ja kenelläpä meistä ei olisi ylimääräisiä tarpeita? Niitä hetken mielijohteesta tehtyjä ostoksia, jotka sitten pölyttyvät hyllyllä? Mulla on ainakin :D Tuo ne vaihtopöytään! Voit bongata sieltä itsellesi jotain omalle sivullesi sopivaa.

She's my baby

We've been on party-mode this weekend.
I started with looking for ideas on Pinterest. It really is a treasure trove! I also had some lovely fellow Pinterest enthusiasts pointing me to more great ideas.

I'm a fan of banners, so once I saw this one, I knew just what to make with the bunch of Marimekko fabric scraps I have filling my stash.



I think I'll leave it up for a while, it brightens these cloudy winter days.

I came across this cute idea. I went for my treasured KI Memories.. I guess you can call some of these vintage papers already, heh. I used scraps to make the flags.




We had fruit kabobs.
Turns out my pineapple hating girls all of a sudden realized they looooove fresh pineapple.
I've been trying to tell them for ages ;)


I love that these sweets have funny questions or dares on them :)
This is a tough one.. the one where you had to purr like a cat or play air-drums were much easier!


The lego men were out in numbers!


And after seeing this, Niina rushed upstairs to build one.


Anything tastes better on a stick, have you noticed?



There was a bit of silliness... sneaking off with all the brownies..


There were really silly looking spaghetti-sausages. The pic is pre-boiling... they looked even sillier afterwards..


Yes, it's been a birthday weekend.


Eleven candles.

The lego men were taken to pieces so new funny ones could be built.


The Wii was out.


I haven't seen him holding a tiny person in a while...

My nephew looks quite comfy there.
Totally digging the lumberjack shirt :)

But this baby of mine is now a tween..

She is 11 today.
She was born on a sunny and cold Tuesday.
A tiny thing.

She's all legs now.
Growing up.
And boy will she be surprised when she finds out what we got her.... :D

Why I make it a big deal

A couple weeks back we had friends come for a visit.
Our old neighbors from the time our oldest kids were born just two months apart.
In just two years our oldest will be legally adults.. scary thought by the way!

I made individual raspberry cheesecakes for dessert.




I baked fun croissant-like dinner rolls.


I tried out my new lemon zester, which is awesome :)


I got out the bubbly and a cool Christmas present, small spice packs for champagne.



Set the table pretty.


At some point my eldest asked why I was making this dinner such a big deal?


Because this is my favorite way of showing just how much I appreciate my friends.
Pampering them with a nice dinner.

Because you can never tell your friends enough just how much they mean to you.
Friends are indeed the salt of life.

Keep your hands warm in the cold

For my co-workers as Christmas presents, I made cute hand warmer hearts.
I used left-over fleece bits and embroidered the tops.
They are filled with rice, and after a quick zap in the microwave, one can slip them into pockets and they'll keep hands warm during the coldest outside supervisions.



I made myself a pair also, they really work.

The idea was to make sort of a flat "snowball" ornament.
I added some alphabet sequins under a cut piece of page protector I sewed on the page.
