..very suspicious...

 My canvas is finally ready.
Filled with acrylic paints, texture medium, pages from an old Famous Five- book (=Viisikko), a bit of glitter and lots of glaze.

I think I need another one of these canvases...

Collage Middle Earth style.. kinda :)

At work I had the kids start on tissue paper collages on canvas this past week.. I love watching them really getting into it.
Personally paper is my favorite medium.. so naturally I grabbed a canvas of my own and just started laying on tissue paper that was nearest.

After a while I began seeing something emerge.. quite by accident..
Or maybe because I had just watched "Lord of the Rings: Two Towers" and had Middle Earth in mind :D

I just had to add Sauron's eye in between those black peaks.
Welcome to Mordor...

Last night I grabbed a bigger canvas at home and started cutting up some maps I had found in my Mom's stash. There's bits of London, Vienna, Hamburg, San Diego, New Zealand, Switzerland, the Arctic Ocean, the Alps and Copenhagen on there.

After the decoupage I added paint washes and a quote from Lord of the Rings.

As a final step I glazed it and then squirted extra glaze that I just let dribble down.

Artsy at Ateneum

This week we've had the 1st graders take part in a work shop at the National Art Museum.
Today I got to tag along to have some fun.

The task was to paint a picture of something that is important for you.
It was good fun and the kids were so into painting.
It's always fun when you have proper equipment!

(click on this to see the images bigger!)

I played some too...

I love how the clouds came out, but I simply ran out of time with the water.. it would have needed another hour at least as it's always so difficult to paint.

Looks like I get to go again with the 2nd graders on Tuesday, I might not go for water picture though.. :D

Monet

My latest painting.
I'm calling it Monet.. as I see something of Monet's waterlily paintings in it...
Click on the picture and you can see the details better.

This pic shows some of the texture.
I really love this one.
Hubby is hanging it on his new office wall.

I'm so happy to be painting again.

January 1st

A quiet lazy kinda day..
Took a morning walk and collected the wood sticks used in the fireworks. Good a good pile, they are great for all sorts of miniature building.

I then spent time with painting #2.
Here is a pic of both of them together.

Then I sat down in front of the tv to watch a pirate episode of Mythbusters, always good educational fun :)
Niina asked me to knit a scarf for Licorice..

It was nice and cozy under the blanket, so I decided to watch some ski jumping too.

And the day began to darken...

It's been a cold day.
A lazy day.
We're watching The Argentine tonight.. Benicio Del Toro as Che Guevara..
Should be good..

Umm yes I did.. :)

Get a couple nice presents myself.
Like this tiny green beauty that keeps me company on my walks.

The new shuffle is insanely small... love it.
Plus it's apple green!
What could be better, I ask?

I also got an easle.
I got rid of my old one some 15 years ago..
Why?
I don't know.. some odd idea.

I have empty canvases, paints and palette knives (no brushes for me, thanks).
I had forgotten how much I enjoy painting.

Here's my latest in daylight.

It'll get a counterpart.
The paintings are a xmas present for my bro's family.
I gave them a giftcard that said the paintings would be delivered in January as soon as they dry :)

I think I'll paint the other one tonight...
