Netflixing the small screen- part 2

The really cold June called for many hours spent in the studio with Netflix.
A very hot July reduced me to a pool of sweat incapable of doing much.
Time for another list of programs enjoyed on the small screen.

A friend who knows I enjoy sci-fi tipped me onto Firefly.
Ooohh...
See, I also love westerns.
This was like a western in outer space. Best of both worlds.
I only wished there would have been more of it.
Sad that a series with a great cast and storyline gets cancelled.
Sci-fi fans, if you haven't checked this one out, you should.

From the future I stepped to the past, New York in the 1860's.
Policework in that era was brutal.
Not for people who can't handle blood.
Waiting for more episodes as I want to know what happened to Eva...

The western fan in me was more than pleased that this gem came up in my suggestions with a nice bold "New Episodes" flag on top.
Same era, 1860's, headed west with the railroad.
Right after the civil war, tensions high, in a race to get to the Pacific Ocean.
My favorite series I watched all summer.
Great characters.
Men with awesome beards ;)

How had I not heard of Anson Mount before?
I could listen to that southern accent of his all day.

A piece of my heart is in the Pacific Northwest where I lived for a year.
So a series set in a grey and rainy Seattle?
I couldn't pass that.
Glad I didn't.
Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman.
Two reasons to watch this.
The third one is the excellent storyline.
This series deserves prizes by the bucketload.

I also watched some British miniseries.

Southcliffe was hauntingly sad.
Just sad.
Good. But sad.
A man driven over the edge.

Almost the same storyline here, but without guns.
With devious political scheming.
Deliciously devious scheming.
Politicians coming apart at the seams.

And now I'm watching this.
I'd heard it's good.
Better than good.
It's brilliant.
I'm also p.r.e.t.t.y. sure I'm not the only one screaming at the screen:
"Nooooooo, JESSE YOU IDIOT! Nooooooooo!!!"
Then banging my head on the desk because you think he would have learned something by now...
Oh and everyone drives really crappy cars :)

July in phone pics

Lots of nice things happened in July.

I met up with a dear friend for some champagne.
The glass is on the floor as it was really windy up on the terrace.
(new sandals, btw)

Then we walked up and down some of the hills in Eira.

I worked more on my string quilt.

Filled a vase with peonies.

Trimmed and sewed.

 Enjoyed ice cream.
From Minetti, I highly recommend it!

Rooted for Germany in the football world cup final.
Special thanks goes to my fellow exchange students Jenny and Elias, from Germany and Brazil, whose FB and Instagram feeds made watching the tournament oh so much more entertaining.

After the cold June as temps picked up, my garden really started blooming.

I opened my very last box ever from Two peas in a Bucket  :(

My eldest got inked.
She was pretty hyped.

I enjoyed the garden in the mornings or at dusk since the temps started reaching (in my book) ridiculously high numbers. Spending time outside during the day was torture.

So instead I cleaned up my studio.
That's Bag End under the table.

 There were water balloon battles.
Anything to cool down.

Occasionally a thunder storm rolled in to give respite.

Walks with my camera happened at 9pm.

I ate some sweets.
And did a double take.
My first guess was not scissors...

It was hot by day and uncomfortable by night because the house didn't have a chance to cool down.

Bottle after bottle of sparkling water and my sheet in the freezer were tools of survival.

Just about the only creative project that didn't reduce me to a pool of sweat were the braided necklaces from sari silk.

I need to plant more zinnias next year!

I uploaded the coolest app ever.
Right?
Silly, yes absolutely.
But the coolest.

I also managed to clothe my new doll, Luna Lovegood.
She'll keep Ginny company.

We did a couple day trips on the last week, separate posts to come :)

I would love one...

Last night I took a walk to one of my favorite places just a short walk away.

I left half an hour before golden hour.
Perfect timing.

I was going to take my camera on an outing to the allotments.
Mid July to mid August is the ideal time to go see what people are growing.
And start dreaming of your own vegetable garden.
Sadly we have two houses and so  many trees in our yard that a place for one with the sun needed is impossible to find.
Well, there's one great place for a veggie garden, but that is our patio area...

Maybe I should just get in line for one of these lots.

-Just 20 minutes from home.

-I love how everyone also grows flowers on their lot

(by the way, most of these shots are SOOC, only editing done is some cropping, the light was perfect)

-It's only 30 euros a year, a bargain.

-I would grow sunflowers, lots of them.

-Peas for Niina and sweet peas for me

-I'd try growing heirloom carrots and pumpkins.

-And wander about the place in the evenings

-I'm not a fan of onions, but I would grow garlic

This photo makes me so happy.
I've never caught sunrays on my DSLR before.

-Maybe I should just go for it...
