June- monthly recap

To start June off I had three extra teens stay the night... I think it was three.. it might have been just two.. 

I made pancakes for breakfast as requested.

Apple trees were in bloom.

I found her favorite cereal from our US years at our supermarket.

She consequently had three or four bowls of it and completely overdosed :P

My view when I lie exhausted on the gym floor...

I love how entry stickers get pasted right outside the gallery.

Pretty droplets all in a row, polka dotted with pollen.

I love  when the sky looks like this.

My radishes look so pretty on the inside.

We had to cut down a huge branch from the lilacs, so I had a lovely bunch gracing my living room.

Out to celebrate with colleagues. Toasting our little high school that could. A survey ranked us best in the country.

We started with bubbly and then went for pizza next door.

Luckily they were out of salad.

Great pizzas though, I highly recommend Putte's if you are downtown.

It is official.

Little sis is taller than big sis.

Remember my Pippi Longstocking socks?

I'm collecting yarn bits for another pair.

They're for someone near and dear to my heart.

As far as knitting goes, my cardigan project is coming along. Only the sleeves are missing.

It's all knitted in one piece, which is brilliant but also somewhat frustrating at times. I'm using this pattern from Ravelry.

I love this instagram project by the energy company. Beautiful photos of Helsinki can now be seen prettifying the ugly grey boxes around down.

Finally it was warm enough for a champagne date with my friend at our favorite summer terrace by the sea.

Also finally warm enough for domestic strawberries. Two weeks late this year.

And costing an arm and a leg, but so worth every cent.

Unfinished business- part 3

Part three, aka the March edition.

These two fake taxidermy heads have been hanging around gathering dust at work for a year.

The original idea was to have these mixed up animal parts making up an imaginary animal. 

Hence the horse head with a rhino horn.

They are made of newspaper covered in handtowels glued on with a home made papermache paste.

As the person I had started these with isn't working with us anymore, the project took a different turn.

Off with the rhino horn and up with an unicorn horn.

And a hat for the fox.

The paper mache paste is one part flour, four parts water boiled until bubbly and cooled a bit. Unless you want to burn your fingers that is.

Ask me how I know this...

The hat was covered with newspaper, for the animals the hand towels gave a great texture.

We worked on these for several days and finally got to the fun part of painting.

Meet Mr. Fox.

His bow tie is made from an old tie, his glasses are wire.

The unicorn's horn is shiny and shimmery, there's some glitter paint in his mane too.

The bases are double layered cardboard covered with newspaper.

They are now up on the wall looking pretty.

We overheard one of the kids wondering why I had made the animals and then chopped their heads off :P

We are thinking of adding a few more next year.

Literary or legendary animals.

I mean we already have the fantastic Mr. Fox and a unicorn.

Toad from Toad Hall (Wind in the Willows) is on my list.

Can you think of more candidates?

My other project was smaller (but only on the outside..)

I finally knitted the other Tardis sock!

It's a good thing these are so cool, because they were a pain to knit.

The Whovian in me is pretty geeked out.

November in phone photos

I started a new pair of socks.

First time I found a warning label on yarn.

And such an accurate one.

Played with watercolors.

I love playing with watercolors.

I bought a brand new set of Christmas lights to hang outside.

Mika ran over the old one with the lawn mower...

I bought new boots.

Real nice ones.

I like catching reflections.

I finished new wristwarmers.

I was haunted by the ugliest car paint job on my way to work.

Matte taupe with neon orange.

Gah, my eyes!

Have I mentioned I love my job?

We met up with the latest addition to the family.

Niina's (and Saara's naturally) second cousin, my god daughter's little girl.

Violets? In November?

We held a paper airplane competition at the Club.

I was amazed what a mess the kids manage to make.

I fooled around with Christmas lights.

I started an extremely frustrating (but geek happy) sock project.

We painted stripes.

And hung up the star.
