Loved those beanbags outside the main Marimekko store :D

So many windows were understated this year.
Lots of white and linen with just a hint of red.

Isn't that lampshade cool?

Dec 9th

We got snow last week.
Then we got snow on Monday.

And I'm not talking of an inch either...

Yesterday I got caught in a flurry downtown...

During a seven minute walk I had de-snow myself three times!
That's how thick it was coming down.


But it sure looks pretty on my street.. all 40cm of it..
That's a good 16 inches.

At the moment Helsinki has more snow than Lapland :D

Dec 8th

I saw this great idea some time ago, I think on One Pretty Thing, of course I can't find the link now.. sorry.

Basically the idea is the same as with the wreaths, wrapping yarn around it to bring out the shape.
And then decorating it.

Here's the rest of that broken bracelet :)

I also made a green Christmas tree.

With silver bells....

Easy and quick!

Dec 7th

These cork pot stands on clearance caught my eye a few weeks ago.
I bought them for three euros knowing full well they'd never see a pot :D
They were perfect for something I'd been planning.

I've been admiring these awesome wreaths on Etsy by KnockKnocking.
Aren't they gorgeous?

I wanted to do something similar as presents.
I dug out yarns left over from past projects and odds and ends from my craft boxes.
The first one turned out to be an understated snowy scene.


I found a styrofoam tree that I covered in lace and jewels from a broken bracelet.
The wreath itself has two yarns covering it and bits of pretty green ribbons.

The second one was covered in yarn that looks like tiny snowballs.

It also got feather angel wings and a tiny blue bird in a silvery nest.

While digging through boxes I found this heart berry wreath I had bought nearly ten years ago.

I added a little lace and a red bird in a shimmery nest.

This one I hung on our door.

It's so sweet.

Tomorrow I'll show you what I did with some cookie cutters.

December daily

The plan was not to make a December daily project..
No matter how many times I had said that I should after visiting Ali's blog.
And then on Saturday in Stockholm I found these:

Dang it.
Now I had to start one :)
Mind you , my numbers stop at 24, and so will my album..me thinks.. we'll see..

Dug around my cupboard and earthed this pretty Chatterbox artsy.licious album and started printing out photos. This way I'll get all of my Dec daily photos documented.
(and yes, the 365 project is still alive.. through the year I've missed maybe five days, so pretty good!)


1.
I made a concious decision this year to use all the wrapping paper and bits I already have. The only thing I'm buying is tape :D


2.
I spent Niina's sick day crafting presents.
Using up stuff I discovered while cleaning the basement storage room. Felt good to use it.


3.
Snowy blue dusk.
Helsinki at its prettiest.
Buildings are like jewels shining bright.
Plus you get the bonus of peeking in through windows...


4.
Almost found the perfect electric advent candelabra in Stokholm...
The only thing stopping us was the ridiculous price!

5.

I love the sky right before it starts snowing.
We have a bunch already and are getting more...

(the album only has 10 pages, so 20 sides.. I need to add a few in between )

6.

This little Miss Flour-nose came to bake gingerbread cookies with us today.
She loved it.

I'll keep posting a few days at a time from now on :D

Starry winter skies make me want to spend a few hours craning my neck and freezing my toes...

Venus has been so bright in the Eastern sky in the mornings... like a real Christmas star. Once I made the decision to take a photo.. it got cloudy... ha. :)

But before my countdown is over, I hope I'll have a pic to share... it's my favorite star.

And just if you are wondering, Orion is my favorite constellation. I always feel home once I find it in the sky.

Do you like my little scene?

The tree, snowman and wreath are from the Club Little House swap I took part in two years ago.
(I loved that swap.. wish we'd do another one...)

I've been coveting one of these glass cloches for some time.
I keep seeing them on people's blogs and loved the idea of adding a little scene in one.
Alas, the ones I've seen here have been really pricey.

Except this one.
By chance I spyed it at a garden center last week.
On a clearance table.
For pittance!
Only it came with a horribly ugly clunky and heavy (I swear it weighed three kilos!) ceramic base.
But the cloche... cheap..
So I went for it.
And once I exited the store, I looked around to see if anyone was looking (nope, nobody was as it was nearly closing time) and tossed the base into the garbage bin :D


Here's the setting without the cloche:

It makes me happy.

Dec 2nd

Got to have lights.
Lots of beautiful lights.
It is the darkest time of the year, when it's dusk at 4pm...
My brain needs lights.
In fact I think they are the prettiest Christmas ornaments.

Julia was helping me last weekend when I put up some pretties.
She ooohhhed appreciatively.
I love how I caught the lights in her eyes :)

have you taken out of focus pics of your Christmas lights? Just switch from auto to manual focus and blur...

In fact I have an idea I'll try playing with tonight... I'll show you if I get it to work.

Raitiovaunut 4 ja 10 tuovat lähelle (nelonen ihan viereen), Mannerheimintiellä (pysäkki: Kuusitie) ja Paciuksenkadulla (pysäkki: Meilahdentie) kulkee huippumäärä busseja ja jos on junalla tulossa, niin Pasilan asemalta kun hyppää 58 bussiin, niin se tuo sieltä ihan perille.
Kadunvarsiparkkitilaa on koulun ympärillä.

Helsinki got snow already in November.
Right along with freezing temps.
Woollen socks have been my friends lately :)


Prettiness on the trees...


And you can find a smallish snowman guarding our entrance.

I'm happy about the snow, it is too dark without it..
I could do with a bit less of the cold though.

It would be nice to go outside and not give your lungs shock treatment..!

Christmas is coming...

Happy first advent :)

It's been a bit quieter here on my blog the last two months, but that's about to change.

You'll be getting a daily dose here from Dec 1st to the 24th.

An advent calendar of sorts.

But right now, I'm off to pull on a second pair of woollen socks.

Mulla olisi teille kysymys...

Kiinnostaisiko teitä pääkaupunkiseudulla, ja tottakai kehyskunnissa myös, asuvia ihan semmoinen ei-kaupallinen skräppäyspäivä tuossa tammikuun alkupuolella?

Kun mulla on suhteet paikkaan, jonne saisi semmoiset kolmisenkymmentä skräppäilijää vaikka ihan koko päiväksi tekemään sivuja :D

Ja nauttimaan toisten samanhenkisten seurasta ja ideoista.
