What caught my eye in Stockholm...

Lots of things in fact.

I find Gamla stan (the old town center) fascinating. Just the little details.
Like this.

And the tiniest of alleys.

Cool craftmanship. I so badly wanted to buy this Zorro, but Mika didn't take to him. I mean, how can you possibly go wrong with Zorro??? A Zorro you wear on a wine bottle no less.

The marketplace made it feel like summer. We bought some strawberries. They were spanish but good nonetheless.

And I got to meet one cool scrapping lady! Monica is on the AMLT design team with me. She was so much fun to talk with, wish we would have had more time. Next time.

Leaving. Sitting at the back of the ferry looking at the amusement park, still hibernating.

I like this one.He looks relaxed. And that's always a good thing.

And then there's this photo. Probably my favorite. Just something about it.

We had a good time.

Just us.

Well now...

See that counter on the sidebar there? I know for a FACT that I had about 30 people stop by to read yesterday... Now I don't mind lurkers, and you don't have to post every single time...but... you knew that but was coming, right? If you haven't introduced yourself before, would you? Please? And Thank You. *wink*

And KIKE (see Mauricio, I remember...)..if you happen to find your way over here here's a big (((HUG))) for you!
Yes, you get special treatment today :o)

**edited- for those of you wondering who is she talking to now? Mauricio is an old (well, not old old... we're still spring chickens, right?) friend from Chile. We were exchange students together in Olympia, WA back in the day**

Now I did manage to get Saara to pose for some shots yesterday.

That last one really appeals to me...
But I can tell you it's a pain balancing on the handrest of your couch trying to get a steady shot, LOL!

Have you seen these super cutely packaged Queen & Co scrap supplies?

I had ordered some of those fab flowers and brads and they arrived yesterday.
Lets put it this way, I got to keep what was inside the containers...

They now have either perfume, eye shadow or moisturizing cream.

Well, I'm off to go clean our walk in closet upstairs. I did half of it yesterday. Apparently it won't clean itself...

Cookies anyone?

I cleaned up my recipe file (read: magazine holder with torn recipes from magazines and odd pieces of paper with something scribbled on them) and found some forgotten gems. Like the oatmeal peanutbutter cookies I just made. The recipe was given to me by my neighbor in Michigan, Karen Dolinski. I don't normally like peanutbutter, but in these cookies...

You know what is my favorite thing about spring? Our resident blackbird has started his singing his little heart out to the world. Just makes me smile.

The long Easter weekend (it extended to Monday over here) was good scrapping time. I surprised myself by finishing 9 (yes, count them n-i-n-e!) layouts. Can't show you four of them, as they are for AMLT's next month gallery.
The rest are up on 2Peas:
'n'
Play and Laugh
Be an Original
Toast and Harry
and my new favorite
Crazy 4 U .

Off to the postoffice to mail out a box and pick up the box of scrapping goodies waiting for me.

Hips don't lie *

Something important has happened during the past five years. Barbie and her friends, like Teresa in the photo above, grew hips. HIPS I SAY!

Dude, this is BIG NEWS!

Niina's really gotten into playing with barbies lately. She got two new ones at Christmas and since then we noticed a slight hitch. Well, technically I noticed, as some clothes are harder to get on the dolls and I end up doing the dressing bit. It was impossible to squeeze a new barbie into older clothes. Just not happening. Then I realized that the new skirts were falling off the old barbies. That's when I put the old next to the new and realized the chick not only got breast reduction, but also her lower ribs back. And most importantly, hips. She actually looks like a real woman. Wow.

So we went through the barbie box, chucked old barbies and their clothes in a bag to go to the fleamarket. Then we went shopping. Niina had saved her Christmas and birthday money and picked up one new barbie and a set of clothes.

The girl's got some hip clothes. I'm thinking the Easter Bunny might bring a few more...

*the title is from a new song by Shakira. I happened to see the video the other day and just watched in awe... Now there's a woman who can move her hips! They must build South American women differently... I only wish mine would move that smoothly.

Happy Palm Sunday!

We Finns have Easter traditions that combine the biblical and pagan customs. To explain the motley crew above I copy pasted this info from the Finland info link I have in the sidebar.

On Palm Sunday, people may greet their friends and relatives by whisking them lightly with virpovitsa willow twigs. It used to be an old custom in Eastern Finland, especially in its Orthodox areas, to wish people luck by whisking them with decorated twigs. On Palm Sunday, relatives and neighbours each got their turn. After a week had passed, they would have to pay by giving a little token in return, usually an egg, sweets or a coin. The virpovitsa custom has spread all over Finland during this century.
Similar secular Easter rituals form a part of the tradition in many European countries, in both East and West. The origin is biblical: when Jesus rode to Jerusalem, people greeted Him by swinging palm fronds. In the north, the southern palms were replaced by willow twigs, the blossoms of which (pussy willows) foreshadowed the awakening spring. After the Reformation, it was forbidden to bless willows in the Swedish realm, but they remained a customary Easter decoration.

Witches Fly at Easter
Stories and tales of witchcraft are a part of widely-known folk tradition. In Central Europe, witches are out and about especially on Walpurgis Night, but in the Nordic countries they fly between Good Friday and Easter Sunday, the time when Jesus is still lying in the Garden Tomb behind a sealed stone door.
According to popular belief, witches were old women who had sold themselves to the devil. They were much feared, because they had the power to hurt people and domestic animals. In some parts of Western Finland, the custom still remains of burning bonfires on Holy Saturday. This is said to be connected with the age-old habit of scaring witches.

During last century, a witch with her broomstick and cat became part of children's Easter games; the devil's advocate flying on her broomstick thus became a fairy-tale character. Of old, witches were associated with Easter, and now they began to symbolize the festival. Pictures of witches were featured on Easter cards and letters. Children began walking around villages dressed as witches as early as the 1800s.

Witches wishing You Good Luck blend the eastern and western traditions
At Easter you may well see quaint little characters walking around Finnish villages and suburbs. Children with sooty faces and scarves tied round their heads go begging, carrying broomsticks, coffee pots and bunches of decorated virpovitsa willow twigs. Little girls and sometimes even boys dressed as witches go from door to door, reciting good luck poems in return for money and sweets.
Daycare centres, schools and the mass media have actively promoted the spread of this tradition, especially since the 1980s. Begging has not always been favourably received: the little witches in fact combine Western superstition with the Eastern church tradition of blessing people by whisking them with twigs. However, the custom is a novel example of the Finns' ability to assimilate and revitalize both Eastern and Western traditions.

This year Niina didn't want to be a witch, but instead opted for the bunny outfit, as did a couple of her friends. She made one cute bunny!

Saara spent the night at a friend's and did her 'virpominen' there. I hear she got a good haul. The crew in the photo came back with their baskets filled with chocolate eggs and all sorts of goodies! She even had a few twigs left over so we have cute decorations when I add those to all the happily decorated ones I received from the 14 or so witches, bunnies and even a cat that rang my doorbell.

Good thing

If you want to listen to something beautiful sung in portuguese, check out Mariza's album Transparente.
I'm listening to it now.
Lovely.

Aren't we cute?

Niina and I had our hair cut today!

Niina wanted shorter hair so she lost 10cm/4 inches!
Love the shorter 'do'!

I got new color and a cut. Feels good.

Ta-daaa!

I'm so happy with the result of this project of mine.
To see what I started to work on,
Honestly, I love it so much I could just sit in this room admiring it for hours
*grin*

The couch still needs a slipcover, I have the fabric, but I haven't had time to sew yet. That'll be this weekend's project. So I just slapped that turqoise piece of chenille, that outdates me by a year, on there.
But look, every bit of the wood is painted!

I painted both doors. The bag on the hook holds clothespins I use when I dry my laundry outdoors in the summer.

New mirror, a big plus. The vacuum hose (I have an in-built vacuum) has a logical place now.

Meet my new mascot. I call him Dr Strangelove. He was the basis for picking out new towel colors.

That shelf is the bomb!!!

New happy towels, detergents all neat, and hey I still have one shelf left.

Laundry bins. Mika said they look like garbage cans and I asked how that mattered to him as he never does laundry. I love them.

New lamps are still in boxes as I have to call my electrician uncle to come attack the 1950's wiring.

Mika liked this facelift so much he told me I could continue on to the sauna washroom this summer. This time he's helping though. Since I'm painting, he's totally scrubbing the place.

Tell me...

...what is wrong in this photo?

Can't be the beautiful daffodils I bought feeling it was spring.
Could it possibly be the 5cm/2inches of SNOW we've gotten in the past hour???

AUGH!

This rate, spring might get here in June...
(When will I stop griping about weather? When I don't need woollen socks, ok!)

So that's what our taxes pay!

I got bills from my ambulance trip to the ER.

I knew the ER cost would be the set 22e/$26.
However I was really anxious to open the envelope for the ambulance bill.
I laughed out loud when I did though.
9,25e/$11!

For that price I got 3 goodlooking, trained EMT's in my kitchen. And a ride to the hospital. Oh I love this country...

Happy April!

I so wish that photo on the banner was from this year... sadly spring is officially two weeks late. I'm hoping that in three weeks those blue flowers are in full bloom.

I wanted to give a little shout out here to come check out the great new stuff at the
A Million Little Things DT Gallery. We had fun themes to work with: Think BIG and shape.

There's also a Cactus Pink challenge. Go check out the rules and
the awesome Cactus Pink prize package!
